Several Causes for Phoenix's High Employment Rate

At this time of the year when most cities are trying hard to regain energy from the deadly beat of the economic depression, Phoenix, the capital city of Arizona, has become the center of attention with its relatively low unemployment rate.

It is really hard for a city to create jobs for the majority of its citizens, even harder when this city is the largest capital city in regard of population and the only one with a population of over 1 million. However, Phoenix takes up the burden with ease owing mainly to the following three aspects.

Jobs

1. Phoenix has developed into a commercial hub and business center for the last several decades. With the perfection of infrastructure and telecommunication, it has attracted many large and famous companies to set up subsidiaries here. Among them you will find many international corporations and Fortune companies, which always pay the highest salary compared with salary of other companies. Besides, it is also home to several Fortune companies. Numerous small and medium companies are also located here, creating countless job opportunities.

2. As a capital city, Phoenix enjoys many privileges. An obvious one is that several government departments are located here, hiring many employees to work for them. According to a survey, an estimated 10% of the city's working force is engaged in government sectors.

3. Phoenicians will never relay totally on others to create job opportunities for them. They prefer to create jobs for themselves and about 10% of the local citizens are self-employed, doing their own business.

There are many other factors that help reduce the unemployment rate of the city. For example, the warm weather in winter attracts a lot of tourists to visit the city, which stimulates the booming of seasonal tourism and other related service industry. And the booming of service industry in turn employs more people and eventually results in the favorable employment status in the city.
